YOKOTA AFB JAPAN ROLLER DERBY
Yokota Scary Blossoms on Facebook
This month’s team hails from Yokota AFB- JAPAN!
Our team was established in June 2011 with the goal of providing the military, civilian, and local populations of Yokota Air Base with a healthy, competitive, and enjoyable sport. We operate in accordance with the WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Derby Association) rules and regulations, and function as a non-profit organization to support and further the worldwide roller derby community and to provide an opportunity for friendship and recreation.
Our team’s mission is not only to provide an additional means of improving fitness to the Yokota community, butfirst and foremost, to support the morale of our Airmen and their families. Our junior team, the Sour Cherries, was recently established to promote fitness and community involvement among Yokota’s youth. We have also established a Scholarship Fund to give back to our community, and will be awarding a scholarship to a member of the Yokota community this academic year.
Aside from community service, our goal is to continue to support the growth of the sport of roller derby worldwide, as this fun and fast-paced sport is hugely entertaining, and is great for Yokota team spirit, and for the camaraderie within our team and with other home teams within our league, the Tokyo Roller Girls, and all teams under the WFTDA. We have opened our membership to local nationals as well, and fully intend to be good ambassadors of Yokota Air Base by facilitating and fostering a positive relationship with our Japanese hosts through the sport of roller derby.
